Delivering writing solutions for Websites, Software Applications, and Print

History of Wordsworth & More

Established in 2000 by John Hood-Fysh, Wordsworth & More provides custom website design and technical writing services to small and medium-sized businesses, software application developers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies in Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley.

Wordsworth & More Founder, John hood-Fysh

Wordsworth & More is operated by John Hood-Fysh. John began his technical writing career in Canada in 1993 by developing a software reference manual, user guide, quick start guide, and help systems for a real estate based software application. The developer reported that his end-user support and training requirements were reduced by 50%.

After developing similar systems for three other applications, including one for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, John was approached to convert a set of paper based policy and procedure manuals into an electronic format. Using innovation and state of the art software tools, he converted the policy and procedure manuals into an electronic format, and then provided training for the department staff to maintain the converted files.

Later, when the same government agency converted to a Lan based e-mail system, John was asked to write a combined training manual and user reference guide for the software. John also provided usability evaluation of the training manual to fine tune the presentation to the students.

As the web became more popular, John expanded his services to include custom website design. Most web designs done by him were completed after 1999.

John's Philosophy

John has two main philosophies that guide him in his business and personal relationships.

Business Philosophy

John firmly believes in a Win Win philosophy. He asks, “If our working together does not achieve the results you need, or does not earn us a profit, then why are we trying to work together?”

John works hard to make sure that you end up with more than you expected. His slogan, “At Wordsworth & More, you always get your words worth and more” reflects that philosophy.

Personal Philosophy

If you know Christian D. Larson's poem "Promise Yourself", you will understand his philosophy. If you do not know it, you can view a copy here. [39K PDF]. It's premise is to focus on you and your actions, and be positive on how you view the world.
If you like it's message, John encourages you to print a copy for yourself. John reflects that philosophy by responding "Excellent!" in many situations.

In His Own Words

I am known for my easy smile and welcoming manner. I grew up in western Canada and moved to the United States in 1997 to work on the Y2K computer problem. During my stay here, I discovered that the people of Oregon were friendly, hard working, and community minded. I found that I really liked the people and the community of the Willamette Valley.

In 1999 I met long-time Albany resident Francey Hood, who would become my bride in December of that year. Francey and I are strong believers in community and participate in volunteer activities in the community; Habitat for Humanity, greeter for the The Albany Chamber of Commerce, and at St. Mary’s Catholic parish in Albany).
